The Rebel Loon Archive: Art Against Operation Metro Surge is a documentary art book preserving visual and written responses to federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota in early 2026. Featuring protest signs, poetry, paintings, and other works by 300 artists, this book preserves expressions of horror, solidarity, and defiance as primary sources for future generations. Curated and edited by Erica Helander for Rebel Loon Press, it documents how neighbors in Minnesota and beyond responded to intense civil unrest.
The 250-page physical book measures 8.5x11” with a velvety soft-touch hardcover, with decorative headbands as part of the book’s binding, and thick satin-finish paper lets the artwork shine.
ABOUT THE REBEL LOON ARCHIVE
In January 2026, the Rebel Loon Archive began as an informal collection of art responding to Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota.
This book was originally intended to be a short booklet of poetry and art, sold locally to encourage those directly affected by ICE’s actions, with any profits going to mutual aid.
What started as a casual call to local artists quickly expanded. From across the United States and around the world, more than 650 artists so far have chosen to share over 1,000 artworks with the Archive. The art in this book is a curated selection from those submissions.
No collection of art can fully represent what it meant—and means—to live through these events. This book is and will always be incomplete. But the Rebel Loon Archive brings together the voices of children, local artists, international contributors, Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonists, and artists sharing their art for the first time.
Five dollars from the sale of each copy of this book will support the Immigrant Defense Network, a coalition of 110+ organizations that provide help of all kinds to immigrants in Minnesota and throughout the Midwest.
